JOB DUTIES INCLUDE
Inspect all construction for compliance with ICC Building Codes adopted by the County;
Inspect building projects ensuring construction is in accordance with approved plans;
Read and interpret adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions and specifications as related to construction projects;
Clearly notify contractor/builder of code violations with a written compliance report at the time of inspection;
Assist the public at the permit counter and on the phone answering basic code questions and issuing over the counter permits;
Enter results of inspections performed in building software;
Follow-up on re-inspection requests and take appropriate action to insure compliance;
Review construction plans and drawings prior to issuing a building permit;
Study technical literature and attend meetings to keep current on applicable codes;
Manage updates and amendments to newer code versions and prepare for adoption by the Board of County Commissioners;
Maintain positive and productive relationships with co-workers, builders, applicants and other inspectors;
Investigate alleged violations to building codes, zoning regulations, hazardous conditions and engage in resolution process;
Maintain daily record of all building code and zoning violation inspections and activities;
May prepare violation cases for County Attorney when necessary;
Support operations of the Office of Emergency Management which may require working in strenuous and hazardous situations to maintain the health and well-being of County residents;
Perform any and all duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED plus three to five years of experience or equivalent in architecture, engineering, construction or any combination
I.C.C. Certified Residential Combination Inspector R-5 is preferred
Candidates who hold an I.C.C. B-5 or any combination ICC certification will be considered
Additional Requirements
Valid Colorado Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
Must be able to pass a criminal background check
This is a safety sensitive position that is subject to random drug testing
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must have thorough knowledge of modern building construction methods and practices, structural design and building codes; ability to detect safety hazards and violations and recommend corrective measures during field inspection work; ability to enforce regulations with firmness, consistency, tact and courtesy in field inspection work; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to remain calm, objective, and impartial under stressful conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, and the general public; ability to understand complex plans, blueprints and specifications and compare them with construction in progress; comfortable working with technology and database software; experience with BluePrince preferred

Personal computer, including word processing and inspection/permitting database software; motor vehicle; portable radio; phone; ladder or scaffolding; tape measure; level, hand tools, copy and fax machine, reference codes

Work is performed frequently in field settings but thorough and regular reporting of time and activities is required. Considerable outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities. Seasonal, inclement weather is common.
