The National Weather Service has issued an extreme wind chill warning starting at midnight tonight and extending through Tuesday afternoon . Dangerously low temperatures with wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero are expected . Updates will be posted to this page as they become available . The safety of our community is paramount .
Recommended preparedness actions include avoiding outside activities if possible . Wind chills of this nature can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as ten minutes . If you need to be outside , dress in several warm layers and cover exposed skin .
Prepare to care for animals indoors . They can be injured in the cold , too .
City facilities
At this time , the City is not altering facility hours . If operating hours for city facilities change , they will be posted to this page .
Shelter resources
The Loveland Resource Center ( LRC ) and South Railroad Facility ( SRF ) shelters are
homeless resourcesoperated by the City of Loveland . The City of Loveland has declared inclement weather operations at both facilities through Monday , January 15 . The LRC is located at 137 S . Lincoln Ave . The SRF is located at 300 S . Railroad Ave .
Transportation resources

Water and power resources
While Loveland Water and Power isn ' t expecting any outages , it ' s important to stay prepared . Report outages to 970 - 962 - 1043 , report any water or sewer line breaks to 970 - 962 - 3456 during weekends or after hours , or 970 - 962 - 3720 during regular business hours .
If the power goes out:
Unplug any unnecessary devices as these can create a power surge when your power comes back on .
Food can generally stay safe in a refrigerator for 24 to 36 hours without thawing or spoiling .
Be aware that you should never use gas generators , camping stoves or ovens to heat your home as these can cause carbon monoxide poisoning . You can use a wood or gas - powered fireplace to create heat . More information about using a generator safety is posted to the

To help prevent the pipes in your home from freezing:
Let both hot and cold - water trickle or drip from a faucet .
Open cabinet doors to allow more heat to get to un - insinuated pipes under a sink or near an outer wall .
Ensure all exterior faucets are turned off with hoses disconnected and covered .
If a water pipe bursts in your home:
Locate your main water shut - off valve and close it to stop the flow of water into your home and prevent additional damage .
If you still have power , be cautious for the potential for electric shock in and around standing water .
Shut off the electricity in your home’s breaker box and remove as much water as possible .
