This beautiful day might be the perfect time to winterize your home , because here in Texas , we know our coldest days often hit in January and February . While we wait to see if and when we’ll get more freezing temperatures and precipitation this year , here are a few tips on what you should do when cold weather strikes . Make sure you’re following the four “Ps” of winter weather safety:
People: Keep your family warm and check on any elderly family or neighbors who may need extra blankets , help winterizing their homes , or a warm place to stay .
Pets: Bring your dogs and cats inside to keep them healthy and safe .
Plants: Either cover plants or bring them inside to keep them warm .
Pipes: Cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing and breaks . If you ever need to shut off the water to your home and aren’t sure how , contact the Town’s Utility Billing division at 972 . 874 . 6010 during normal business hours . For help turning off your water after - hours , call the Flower Mound Police Department’s non - emergency line at 972 . 539 . 0525 .
