The City of Shelton thanks and expresses our appreciation for the work of our state legislative delegation , Senator Drew MacEwen , Representative Dan Griffey and Representative Travis Couture , for their partnership and advocacy of our state appropriations requests , which have assisted us in advancing critical infrastructure improvements and ensuring that Shelton continues to be a great place to live and work .
   Wallace Kneeland Boulevard Intersection Improvements
   The City will receive a $1 million appropriation in the transportation budget for needed pedestrian and ADA infrastructure improvements along Wallace Kneeland Boulevard . Our 6 - Year Transportation Improvement Program ( TIP ) and Local Road Safety Plan include multiple projects along this high - volume roadway .
   Wallace Kneeland Boulevard is used to access our local hospital , several senior and long - term care facilities , the Shelton YMCA , and three local schools . This project funding will help improve safety for some of our most vulnerable road users .
   Planning and Design of a New Multi - Use Trail
   The state capital budget includes $200 , 000 for planning and design work for a new multi - use trail . The trail will connect Kneeland Park with the western edge of City limits . It will feature public art , interpretive and historical signage , and viewing opportunities to see the salmon run in Goldsborough Creek .
   This new trail will provide additional alternative transportation and mobility options and serve as a safe route to school for hundreds of Shelton’s students .
