SCHENECTADY –
Today the City of Schenectady
announced the completion of a new storage facility at the Sustainable Living Center in Schenectady’s Central Park . Mayor Gary McCarthy joined State Senator Jim Tedisco , Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schenectady County ( CCESC ) , and Friends of the Greenhouse ( FOGH ) to unveil the new facility before the Annual Master Gardener’s Plant Sale .
The new storage facility was funded by a $50 , 000 grant from State Senator James Tedisco , and a $12 , 500 grant from the Carlilian Foundation . The City of Schenectady Department of General Services provided significant in - kind services for the construction of the facility . The new building will replace two smaller structures and will allow for the storage of various equipment , tools , supplies , and materials in a secure location and out of the weather .

Mayor McCarthy said .
“Thank you to Senator Tedisco , the Carlilian Foundation , Cornell Cooperative Extension , Friends of the Greenhouse volunteers and our dedicated city workers who invested significant time and effort into this latest addition to the Sustainable Living Center . ”

“This facility will not only provide aesthetic appeal but will protect the equipment and supplies from weather damage and provide safe and organized access .
The
Sustainable Living Center
located in Schenectady’s Central Park is operated by CCESC for horticultural education programs . FOGH was created in 2015 to help maintain and improve the facility . FOGH initiated a series of strategic planning sessions to help develop a master plan that would address the needs of the facility . One of the major components was the need for a new permanent storage building that would replace the existing smaller structures that were insufficient in size , access , and lighting .

Friday , May 20 , 2022 from 12:00pm – 6:00pm
and on
Saturday , May 21 , 2022 from 12:00pm – 4:00pm
