City of Reno Nevada - City of Reno Announces Free Cooking Class for Seniors at Reno Elks Lodge 01 January 2100 ( news )

The City of Reno and Ward 4 Councilmember Meghan Ebert are excited to announce an opportunity for Northern Nevada seniors to improve their cooking skills through a free culinary class . The class will take place on Thursday , February 29 , 2024 , from 11 a . m . to 2 p . m . at the Reno Elks Lodge at 597 Kumle Lane .
Taught by Chef Johnathan Chapin and sponsored by Councilmember Ebert , the cooking class will provide recipes for tasty and nutritious meals for any budget . The class will include affordable meals , taste testing , as well as items from stores that individuals may shop at in town .
Councilmember Ebert believes it will provide useful skills while giving seniors the opportunity to socialize .
"Sometimes cooking can be repetitious and expensive , " said Councilmember Ebert . "That ' s why we want to host this class . We want to empower and excite our seniors by teaching them how to cook a new , tasty and budget friendly meal . "
Chef Chapin is the Owner , Founder , and Chef at Reno Recipes . He began his culinary journey as a teen , progressing post - high school where he excelled as a sous chef , chef de cuisine , and eventually ran his own kitchens . Chef Chapin spent two decades owning a successful musical production company and a music venue . However , during the COVID 19 Pandemic , he returned to his culinary roots , cooking to support families , local nonprofits , and those facing challenges with food and finances .
