City of Davis California - City Launches Parks and Community Services Community Needs Assessment and Survey 09 January 2024 ( news )

The City of Davis’ Parks and Community Services Department ( PCS ) invites the community to participate in a survey that will be used to help shape the future of recreational programming and park amenities in Davis . The survey will be open until February 20
th
and can be found at:

The survey asks residents which recreational programs should be expanded , what times of the day work best for participants , where programming locations should be considered , how to prioritize recreational program spending and more . The survey is part of a larger Community Needs Assessment/Master Plan ( Plan ) effort that that will help PCS understand the current preferences of the community related to facilities and programming . The updated Plan will also serve to identify any gaps or areas of improvement related to PCS and its areas of responsibility to the community . The Plan will prioritize objectives to be completed by the Department , and include a timeline and any associated costs . Taken together , these elements will serve as an operational roadmap for years to come . The process will involve significant opportunities for public input , which begins with the survey effort .
The Community Needs Assessment/Master Plan will furthermore dovetail into the City’s next General Plan update , much like other recent comprehensive plan efforts , such as the Downtown Davis Plan , the Urban Forest Management Plan and the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan . The Plan includes a substantial effort to do a comprehensive inventory and condition assessment of the City’s parks . This is one of several efforts that the City has undertaken in the last few years to have reliable , fact - based information about the condition of the City’s assets to enhance making data - driven decisions based on policy setting , resource allocation and budgeting .
Many changes have occurred in Davis in the last decade related to parks to meet the needs of the expanding Davis population that have increased the responsibility and maintenance efforts of the Department . Some changes include additions in park acreage , greenbelt miles , athletic fields , park playgrounds and more . To learn more about the Needs Assessment , please visit:
