Several key dates for Mayor and City Council elections are right around the corner .
   Beginning on Tuesday , January 2
   nd
    , candidates interested in filing for a place on the ballot may pick up a candidate packet from the Office of the City Secretary , located at City Hall , 202 W . 5
   thStreet .
   The first official filing date for a place on the ballot will be Wednesday , January 17 , 2024 . The application deadline is Friday , February 16
   that 5:00 p . m .
   The election will be held on Saturday , May 4
   th
    .  
   Slated for election is Mayor and three Council districts: five , six and seven . Mayor and City Council members serve a four - year term of office and are eligible to serve two terms ( eight years ) . Maps with the specific area of the district are available on the City’s website , www . plainviewtx . org .
   To be eligible to run for City Council , a person must be a United States citizen; be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election; have not been determined by final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have not been finally convicted of a felony; shall have resided continuously in the state for 12 months ,  shall have resided within the district for at least 6 months and is a registered voter in the district from which office they wish to run .

   th– Last day to file for a place on the ballot .
   April 22
   nd– First day of early voting
   April 30
   th– Last day of early voting
   May 4
   th– Election Day
