   GREENVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT – Looking for the Best.
   The City of Greenville, Texas is seeking a progressive law enforcement professional to serve as its next Chief of Police.  Chief Scott Smith announced and is enjoying his retirement after successfully serving the Greenville Police Department for over nearly four decades.  Greenville has all the charm of a small East Texas town and is conveniently located just 35 miles northeast of Dallas/Fort Worth.   Greenville also serves as the county seat and largest town in beautiful Hunt County.  The current population of Greenville stands at approximately 30,000 with approximately 35 square miles.  The Greenville Police Department is acknowledged as a "Recognized Law Enforcement Agency" by the Texas Police Chiefs Association.   
   The Police Department enjoys a very positive relationship with the community and the new Police Chief will be expected to build upon this relationship while continuing the development of a contemporary professional agency. The successful candidate will exhibit superior interpersonal skills and be expected to proactively engage members of the Department and the community. Candidates will receive favorable consideration from the City that have experience in a similar size or larger department, display strong leadership characteristics, be experienced in community policing, and be thoroughly knowledgeable about modern industry trends, practices, and resources.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with effective technological applications and possess a strong history of organizational and individual accountability.
    
    The Police Department is supported by an annual budget of over $8.8 million (FY2021-2022) and is staffed with 59 certified officers and 22 non-certified personnel.  The Department responds to over 1200 calls for service each year. Specialized divisions include Administration, Operations Support, Criminal Investigations, and Support Services. 
   The following are job qualifications:
   Ten years of certified law enforcement experience in municipal policing, five years of which include command level experience in a law enforcement agency.  
   Advanced law enforcement education and training.
   Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with major coursework in criminology, law enforcement, social science, public administration or a closely related field is preferred.
   Possession of a TCOLE Master Certification required.
   Experience with Texas Police Chief Association Best Practices Recognition Program preferred.
   Experience with Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code preferred.
    
   The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field is highly preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience with a minimum of five years of experience managing multiple organizational units is required. 
   A track record of continuing involvement in professional development is expected. The ideal candidate will have graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy, Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership and Command College, Southern Police Institute, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration School of Executive Leadership or Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute for Police.  Acceptable candidates will hold at minimum, a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Advanced Certification.  If certification is from an equivalent state or federal certification authority, TCOLE certification must be obtained within twelve months of employment.  The successful candidate must have possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain) with a clear driving record.   Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
   The City of Greenville offers a comprehensive, generous benefits package that includes health/life/vision insurance which is provided for the employee by the City, short and long-term disability insurance, eleven (11) paid holidays, sick leave, etc. Optional enrollment in dependent medical/dental coverage, supplemental life, and short-term disability insurance and deferred compensation are offered as well.  The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at an employee contribution rate of 7% with City funded match of 2:1 and five-year vesting. The City of Greenville offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience ($122,000 – 146,000).
