   POSITION DETAILS:                        
   TITLE:                                                Certified Electrician
   DEPARTMENT:                                Municipal Services
   CURRENT RATE OF PAY:              $40.40 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits
   HOURS OF WORK:                          40 hours per week, as per the Collective Agreement.  Shift work as required.
   POSITION:                                         Union Affiliation
    
   GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
   The incumbent shall be responsible to carry out all journeymen functions in the electrical field with a high degree of proficiency.
    
   SUPERVISION:
   The incumbent is responsible to the Director of Municipal Services under the direction of the Manager of Public Works.
    
   MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
   Records, files and updates electrical schematics, electrical underground subdivision wiring and all other related Electrical Department documents.
   Liaises with B.C. Hydro, Telus, Cablevision provider, other utilities and all colleagues under the City’s employment to ensure a productive, safe and economical electrical system throughout the City.
   Must be named as the City’s FSR, Class “A” (Field Safety Representative) on all annual electrical operating permits as required under the Provincial Electrical Safety Act.
   Maintains and repairs all electrical equipment in all departments of the City, including:
   all water distribution equipment relating to electricity, including electrical motors, motor control centers (MCC), instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC), high voltage switches, large portable and stationary generators and radio communication equipment.;
   all sewage collection equipment relating to electricity, including electrical motors, motor control centres (MCC), instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and high voltage switches;
   traffic signals and controls;
   street lighting and controls;
   communications equipment;
   all City owned and operated buildings, including fire alarm system inspection & repairs;
   small tools, appliances and electrical apparatus;
   irrigation systems.
   Must have a good understanding or be knowledgeable in the area of instrumentation and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
   Inspect, install, maintain, repair and modify heating, ventilating, air conditioning, such as filters, belts, fans, thermostats, controls, pumps, boilers, furnaces, compressors, etc., plumbing and related systems in City owner and/or operate buildings.
   Responsible for the operation and control of the Building Maintenance Shop and maintenance of all related equipment.
   Responsible for building maintenance work, as directed.
   Assist the Manager of Public Works in implementing a preventative maintenance schedule for all City owned and/or operated buildings and support systems in accordance with usage patterns.
   Performs a variety of scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.
   Responds to call-out emergency maintenance and repair work on short notice and possible inclement weather conditions.
   Responsible for ensuring safe work practices used on the job site and assisting in the development of safer and more efficient methods of work.
   Completes other duties as assigned and required to facilitate the City’s day-to-day operations.
   QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
   Minimum of Grade XII.
   Must hold a Class “A” Certification of Qualifications in the Trade of Electrical Work.
   Minimum five (5) years recent electrical experience.
   Valid B.C. Driver’s License – Class 5.
   Must be the designate as a Field Safety Representative, as required under the Electrical Safety Regulation of the Safety Standards Act.
   Knowledge and experience in preparation and maintenance of log books, records, reports, maintaining accuracy.
   Knowledge and experience in all aspects of interpreting drawings.
   Knowledge and experience in all aspects of building repair and maintenance.
   Demonstrated commitment to additional training as required and to on-going upgrading of skills and abilities.
   Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
   Ability to work independently, to prioritize and organize workload.
   Ability to supervise.
   Ability to operate communications equipment and software.
   Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
   Must have basic computer knowledge
   Ability to operate a bucket truck.
   Must have basic computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office
   Must be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 Vaccine
