On January 29 , we proudly acknowledge the 175th anniversary of the City of Wilson , North Carolina!  From the humble beginnings of Toisnot Depot in the late 1830s to the vibrant municipality we cherish today , Wilson ' s journey is a testament to resilience , growth , and community spirit .
   1836 - The Birth of Toisnot
   In 1836 , the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad Company set the stage for Wilson ' s inception , beginning the construction of a railroad from Wilmington to Weldon .
   1839 - Toisnot Takes Root
   By mid - 1839 , the railroad reached what is now Wilson , establishing a station named "Toisnot . " This marked the beginning of passenger rail service , sparking the growth of a community around the depot .
   1848 - From Toisnot to Wilson
   In a pivotal moment in history , State Senator Wyatt Moye introduced a bill on December 20 , 1848 , proposing the incorporation of Toisnot Depot and Hickory Grove into a town named Wilson . The bill was ratified by the North Carolina General Assembly on January 29 , 1849 , officially establishing Wilson as a municipality .
