Carver County Environmental Center reminds the community of the importance of proper battery disposal due to fire hazard . While the County strives to offer the most convenient recycling options for residents , batteries can become flammable and proper care is required .
Officials with Carver County Environmental Services said that a small fire incident occurred at the Chaska location the evening of Monday , January 29 , 2024 . “Thankfully , this incident was immediately contained to the one zone due to the quick response of our area first responders and the countless safety measures and protocols that were promptly executed by our staff , ” said Brad Hanzel , Carver County Department Manager .
Battery Disposal Guidelines:
Alkaline Batteries:
These types of batteries do not contain hazardous material and may be placed in the trash .
Carver County Environment Center accepts these batteries at its drop - off facility .
Lithium Ion , Button Batteries , Rechargeable Batteries:
These types of batteries do contain toxic metals and pose a threat if improperly disposed .
Drop off at the Carver County Environment Center .
If unable to remove battery from device , bring the entire device to the facility .
The Environmental Center regular business hours will resume Wednesday , January 31 , 2024 .
