   SUMMARY
   Under limited direction, the Shift Leader-Firefighter-Paramedic performs various skilled EMS, fire suppression, and prevention activities, which are often performed under conditions, which require strenuous physical exertion. Manages assignments, coordinates schedules, reviews timesheets, and provides leadership for all Firefighter staff. Each Shift Captain assigned to duties to maintain Fire/EMS state regulations and maintaining such regulations by assuring all records are up to date and correct. The captain protects life and property by supervising and performing firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, rescues and fire prevention duties. The Captain ensures that all fire equipment, apparatus and facilities are maintained and response ready at all times.  The Captain exercises supervision over full time firefighters, part-time firefighters and volunteer firefighters.  The Captain shall coordinate evaluations, instruct and supervise the work of the assigned shift personnel or personnel assigned in the event of a response to an emergency event.  The Captain shall ensure that the Town of Sunnyvale and Fire Department policies are followed.

   Performs routine and non-routine firefighting and EMS skills for different emergent and non-emergent situations and scenarios; correctly uses hoses, nozzles, ladders, chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, and other equipment for fire suppression and prevention.
   Provides fire suppression services and special operations; assists and supports pre-fire planning, fire inspections, fire prevention, public education, hydrant checks, and small engine and tool repair.
   Maintains cleans, and monitors the up-keep of the Fire Department property; supervises the overall maintenance of station, grounds, and department facilities.
   Trains, drills, and evaluates department personnel on firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical technologies; conducts inspections and safety education programs.
   Responds to various types of emergency, directs activities, assigns personnel, and manages personnel and physical resources; makes decisions related to life, property, and protection measures; provides leadership and guidance.
   Organizes, coordinates, and gathers firefighting equipment and personnel; conducts fire drills in various institutions,  commercial establishments; participates in fire drills and attends classes in firefighting, EMS, and related duties.
   Inspects commercial and non-commercial buildings for fire safety and compliance; signs citations and gives testimony in court in connection with fire code enforcement activities.
   Applies basic knowledge of risk and safety management to tactical situations; serves as a safety officer observing and proactively intervening for the fire company safety; reports unsafe behavior or activities.
   Attends training and educational meetings to discuss tactical, safety, and general protocols; ensures all work is up to date on procedures, policies, and techniques.
   Attends and participates in various classes and training related to firefighting, emergency medical service, and related duties; ensures company standards are maintained and communicated to the department.
   Participates in regular physical fitness activities to maintain physical conditioning; maintains regular and reliable attendance.
   Performs exceptional and seamless customer service; shows integrity and a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible firefighting activity; drafts and prepares consistent and accurate incident reports and maintains the accuracy of all other departmental reports.
   Administers emergency medical services to injured persons or other trauma victims; performs skilled lifesaving techniques including CPR and First Aid; performs welfare checks, lift assists, blood pressure checks, life support care, intravenous fluid resuscitation, and patient treatment and transportation.
   Performs other duties as assigned or required to enhance the logistical success of the department.
