The Wilson Human Relations Commission has already begun selling tickets for the 53rd annual Human Relations Awards , which will be Friday , Feb . 23 , beginning at 6:30 p . m . at the Darden Alumni Center , 1600 Lipscomb Road . Tickets can be purchased for $20 at the Human Relations office up until Feb . 16 .  
   This year ' s theme is "Build the Bridge that Uplifts the Future , " a perfect opportunity to nominate and honor those who are making a difference in our community .  
   Nominations are currently being accepted , and everyone nominated will be recognized at the event . We have several categories ,

   Community Service Awards
     - Nominate the Community Champions that have served and given back to the community within the past year .  
   Now accepting nominations for Community Service Awards listed:
   Adult Volunteer
     - Nominate an individual volunteer that serves others in the community and is focused on helping and improving the Wilson community .
   Youth Volunteer  -  
   Nominate a young person ( 6th - 12th grade ) with a high level of community involvement , leadership or volunteerism .
   Group Volunteer
     - Nominate a group , organization or club that serves other in the community , brings about change , or improves the Wilson community .
   Volunteers Taking Initiative
     - Nominate a NEW program , established within the last 1 - 3 years , focused on helping the disadvantaged or improving the quality of life for all citizens with continued success .
   Social Justice Volunteers
     - Nominate an individual or group that has been crucial in creating positive community responses and promoting the advancement of underrepresented groups during the past year with acts of social justice , advocacy , awareness or reconciliation to ensure fair and equal treatment of all citizen in Wilson .  
   Civil Servant
     - Nominate an adult that works for city , county , government , law enforcement or emergency services that goes above and beyond the call of duty . Letter and materials submitted must demonstrate the employees contributions to the community stretch well beyond a typical job responsibility and elevate the community .  
   When submitting a nomination , please include a support letter and any relevant materials such as articles , photos , or social media posts . We are looking for volunteers who have made significant contributions to our community , so nominations based solely on employment or profession will not be considered . If there is overlap with employment , the nomination letter should clearly demonstrate how the individual has gone above and beyond their job expectations .
