CURRENT RATE OF PAY:
$33.23 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits
HOURS OF WORK:
40 hours per week, pursuant to the Collective Agreement

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The position is responsible for community relations, field and administrative work to achieve public compliance with Municipal bylaws. The incumbent shall be responsible for patrolling City streets and parking lots and issuing Traffic Violations, seizure and impoundment of animals pursuant to respective Bylaws, deliveries, bank deposits, inspections and respond to complaints.
SUPERVISION:
Responsible to the Director of Protective Services under direction of the Senior Bylaw Officer.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enforces Parking Control, Animal Control, Noise, Snow Removal and Sprinkling Regulation Bylaws and other regulatory bylaws.
Collects and correlates evidence to support periodic charges under the above noted Bylaws.
Appears in court as a witness for the prosecution of charges under various City Bylaws.
Manages recovered bicycle registry.
Arranges for euthanasia of animals as required in accordance with the Animal Control Bylaw.
Delivery of mail and bank deposits, as directed.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to daily activities/investigations.
Serves summonses as required for court purposes.
Must work within safety guidelines as established by the City and/or the Workers' Compensation Board.
Responsible for ensuring safe work practices used on the job site and assisting in the development of safer and more efficient methods of work.
Required to work in inclement weather conditions.
Responsible for assistance in the training of new employees to familiarize them with Municipal work.
Maintain accurate records and court documentation for parking violations
Responds to public complaints as directed by the Senior Bylaw Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Grade 12, with successful completion of Investigative Skills Course, Level 1, through Justice Institute
Minimum 2 years enforcement experience
Strong computer skills
Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
Ability to investigate, compile evidence and prepare files for prosecution of a Bylaw offence.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with proven safe driving record.
Knowledgeable in handling and properly caring for various sizes and types of animals.
Ability to understand and interpret applicable City bylaws.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate log books and records.
Knowledgeable in service summonses for Municipal offenses.
Ability to self motivate and to function with minimal supervision.
Ability to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with members of the public and co-workers.
Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative.
Shall be physically fit and able to work outside in all types of weather, to walk long distances and to climb stairs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
