Many low - income individuals and families nationwide are now eligible to receive a $30 per month discount on their internet bills , as well as a one - time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop , desktop computer or tablet . This benefit is part of the Affordable Connectivity Program ( ACP ) , a federal initiative stemming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law .
In conjunction with ACP , the White House has secured commitments from 20 major internet providers , including Spectrum , Frontier , and Verizon , to offer program - eligible households high - speed internet plans for no more than $30 , which means monthly plans could be free for eligible program participants .
