Drinking Water Advisory
Boil your water before using .
The City of Battle Creek has shut down a portion of the water system for improvements or repairs . When work on our water system requires us to reduce the water pressure below a certain level , there is potential for bacteria to enter the system . Bacteria generally are not harmful , and are common throughout our environment . As a safeguard to your health , the City of Battle Creek is ADVISING you to boil water before consuming it . The areas affected are as follows:
• Country Club Dr . , between Capital Ave . and Jennings Ln .
• Country Club Blvd . , between Capital Ave . and Lincoln Blvd .
• Capital Ave . , between Country Club Blvd . and Williams Dr .
• Frances Dr . , between Capital Ave . and Park Pl .
What should I do?
The City of Battle Creek advises that you boil your tap water before you consume it . Bring all water to a boil , let it boil for one minute , and let it cool before using . You also may use bottled water . You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking , making ice , brushing teeth , washing dishes , and food preparation , until further notice . Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water .
What is the city doing?
The city has issues this advisory as a precaution . Such a precaution is recommended when we must reduce water pressure in the system .
The City of Battle Creek is working to restore water pressure as soon as possible , after the improvement/repair work is completed . The water team will take other actions , such as hydrant/system flushing , and collecting bacteriological samples from around the affected area . The city will test these samples to determine that the water quality meets the state drinking water standards . The City of Battle Creek will inform the local news media , and post updates on the City’s website “Alert Center” when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water .
You can sign up for text and/or email Water System Information alerts at battlecreekmi . gov/notifyme .
The sampling process and testing process takes a minimum of 24 hours , but may take longer . This boil water advisory shall remain in effect until results from the sampling verify the water is safe to drink .
