Interested in serving the Woodridge community? Consider volunteering as a Board of Police Commissioner! The Village of Woodridge is seeking a professional to volunteer their time serving their community on the Village’s Board of Police Commissioners .
What is the Board of Police Commissioners?
The Board of Police Commissionersis a Village of Woodridge commission that is responsible for appointment and promotion of sworn Woodridge police officers through the rank of Sergeant . The Commission also conducts all hearings on disciplinary matters through the rank of sergeant and sets all standards relating to hiring and promotion . The five ( 5 ) members of the Board of Police Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees . The term of office is three years .
Duties of the Board of Police Commissioners1 . Conduct the competitive testing process to establish the eligibility list from which entry - level police officer appointments are made .
2 . Conduct the competitive testing process to establish the eligibility list from which promotional appointments are made .
3 . Sets all standards relating to hiring and promotion .
4 . Conduct all hearings on disciplinary matters through the rank of sergeant .
Time commitment:
Meetings occur on a monthly basis and are currently scheduled to occur on the fourth Monday of each month .
Time commitment: About one hour per month .
Prior to the monthly meetings , Board of Police Commissioners are responsible for reviewing a packet of information regarding current probationary Police Officers and entry - level candidates being considered for appointment to the Police Department .
Time commitment: About one hour per month .
The Board of Police Commissioners conducts the competitive testing process to establish the eligibility list from which entry level police officer and promotional appointments are made . This process includes Commissioners conducting oral interviews with candidates .
Time commitment: Three evenings in a three - month period for promotional testing process . Entry level police officer candidate oral interviews are conducted on an as needed basis , needing one commissioner to participate .
The Board of Police Commissioners may participate in oral interviews with candidates for Lateral Hire Police Officers positions . Oral interviews occur on an as - need basis , needing one commissioner to participate .
Miscellaneous meetings – The Board of Police Commissioners may be called upon to hold special meetings from time to time to discuss disciplinary or other matters .
Time commitment: Infrequent , usually one evening meeting .
Qualifications
Individuals who have a background in supervision , management , and/or human resources will be well suited for this position .
