   Incumbent serves as Bailiff/Court Reporter for Superior Court I, responsible for coordination of juror selection process, maintaining order during court hearings and secretarial functions for Judge.
   DUTIES:
   Opens courtroom, this includes checking courtroom and judge's office alarms, and courtroom recorder daily to ensure proper working order.
   Maintains courtroom security.
   Performs various clerical duties as assigned or as needed; including scheduling and processing related documents, directing people and/or witnesses to proper courtroom, making/responding to calls for information, typing/updating/copying forms as needed, pulling/ replacing or printing scanned files, opening/distributing mail and compiling/typing information.
   Prepares Orders as dictated by the Judge, receives, and organizes any Proposed Orders submitted to the Court by counsel for presentation to the Judge, and prepares abstracts of Judgment concerning any Judgment of Conviction.
   Receives list of new jail detainees daily and schedules hearings if needed.
   Coordinates criminal docket and assigns pauper counsel for criminal cases. Arranges required remote video/ telephonic hearings for incarcerated litigants as needed.
   Facilitates jury selection, including mailing jury summons and questionnaires, information sheets and parking passes, and processing juror deferral requests.
   Oversees and assists jurors during all jury trials, including providing employment forms, responding to inquiries, providing/escorting to meals, arranging lodging/transportation, providing supplies/food/beverages, checking in jurors at trial, recording mileage, entering data on computer, and preparing/processing/forwarding claims/vouchers to Auditor. Arranges and accompanies sequestered juries in hotel overnight as occasionally required.
   Periodically coordinates psychiatric evaluations for criminal defendants as needed, including scheduling appointments with psychiatrist and jail, and composing/typing/forwarding orders and correspondence.
   Docket hearings and process motions and orders through Odyssey software.
   Prepare and file No Contact Orders and Abstracts of Judgment through INCITE software.
   Serves as Court Reporter for some civil proceedings if needed and all criminal hearings and prepares Orders as necessary.
   Operates all courtroom technology when serving as Court Reporter.
   Periodically performs duties of Civil Court Reporter/Office Manager in his/her absence as assigned including recording hearings in the courtroom and maintaining the security of exhibits introduced in Court.
   Assists Receptionist, Administrative Assistant and Probate Clerk as needed, and occasionally performs duties in their absence as assigned.
   Periodically attends job-related conferences.
   Performs related duties as assigned.
   Ability to perform duties remotely if necessary.
   I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
   Minimum of high school diploma or GED with six months to one year of legal experience; public administration and/or legal experience preferred.
   Working knowledge of standard office and court policies, procedures, legal requirements and terminology, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
   High level of working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to type with speed and accuracy and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including court recording equipment, computer, printer, telephone, copier. High level of ability with all aspects of Microsoft Office.
   Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and ability to make arithmetic calculations, maintain accurate records, and prepare and process related forms and reports as required.
   Ability to operate Odyssey and INCITE court technology with high level of proficiency.
   Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, attorneys, jurors, a variety of agencies/departments in/outside the county, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
   Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
   Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of court information/records according to state statutes and administrative rules.
   Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
   Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
   Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
   Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
   Ability to occasionally work evening, and extended hours during jury trials, weekend hours (rarely), and arrange and accompany sequestered jury in a hotel overnight occasionally as needed.
   Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
   II. RESPONSIBILITY:
   Incumbent performs standard, recurring duties according to department policies and procedures. Incumbent receives indirect or occasional supervision, with priorities determined primarily by service needs of the public. Errors in incumbent's work are usually prevented through procedural safeguards and are detected through notification from other departments/agencies or the public. Undetected errors may result in loss of time for correction, work delays and/or inconvenience to other departments, agencies, or the public.
   III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
   Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, jurors, attorneys, and the public for the purpose of exchanging information, and explaining jury policies and procedures.
   Incumbent reports directly to Office Manager and/or Judge.
   IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
   Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment and in a courtroom, which may involve sitting for long periods, walking/standing for long periods, sitting, and walking at will, close and far vision, hearing communication, speaking clearly, handling/grasping objects, keyboarding, and lifting/carrying objects weighing under 25 pounds. Incumbent occasionally works extended, weekend and/or evening hours, and arranges and accompanies sequestered juries in a hotel overnight as required.
