Y . – As part of ‘Projects Day’ at the United States Military Academy ( USMA ) , “Team Night Storkers” is designing a quick and efficient means to deliver cargo using an air - deliverable autonomous system capable of delivering up to 500 pounds of small scale supplies to forward - deployed Soldiers . This design introduces rapid release systems for low - altitude , high accuracy airdrops and provides rapid , small unit resupply to the warfighter . By increasing the frequency of resupply operations , the average weight load for Soldiers decreases . “Units can be resupplied more frequently with critical goods such as ammunition , food , water , and medical supplies . These deliveries will directly improve soldier quality of life and contribute to mission success , ” USMA Cadet Katherine King said . By partnering with U . S . Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Soldier Center ( DEVCOM ) , the Cadets were able to contribute directly to Army needs and build upon designs from previous years . The impact of the Cadets ' design will promote longer and more remote missions , while also establishing an increased operational autonomy and mission command . “I recognize I must be aware of how my solutions are implemented , and I more fully understand that there is always more that can be done to improve the lives of my Soldiers , ” USMA Cadet Kristina Hughes said .
