About the Department:
The Public Works Department maintains the County’s critical infrastructure. This includes roads, bridges, buildings, land, vehicles, and heavy equipment. The Department is comprised of two major divisions, Roads and Facilities, and includes the Central Shop, where County and allied agency vehicles are maintained, and administrative offices, including Purchasing. About the Position
: Full time position that is responsible for automotive repair and maintenance for both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment in the shop and in the field.
Requirements: Automotive Mechanic I -
Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics dealing with maintenance and repairs on cars, trucks, and road construction equipment with either diesel or gasoline engines. High school graduate or equivalent with 3 years of mechanical experience and CDL Class B License required with air brakes, bus, and manual transmission endorsements within 6 months of employment. Hazmat endorsement required within 9 months of employment.
Automotive Mechanic II -
Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics dealing with maintenance and repairs on cars, trucks, and road construction equipment with either diesel or gasoline engines. High school graduate or equivalent with 5 years of mechanical experience and CDL Class B License required with air brakes, bus, and manual transmission endorsements within 6 months of employment. Hazmat endorsement required within 9 months of employment.
Desirable Additional Qualifications:
Maryland Class “A” CDL, ASE Certification, and the Ability to write specifications for parts and equipment.
Starting salary
:
Automotive Mechanic I
$17.24 - $20.24 (hourly)
May vary based upon experience.
Automotive Mechanic II
$18.73 - $21.78 (hourly)
May vary based upon experience.
