Position Summary:
This is a technical and administrative position which assists the Camp Director in managing, directing, and overseeing the operations of the township's Summer Camp program.
Essential Functions:
Assumes responsibility of the operations of the camp program and performs functions of the Camp Director in his/her absence.
Assists in implementing camp goals and objectives.
Assist with creating schedules, lesson plans, activities, and procedures for camp operations.
Assists in supervising and mentoring camp counselors, volunteers, and camp participants during all activities.
Assists in training staff by leading small group discussions and/or teaching training lessons; provides performance reviews and periodic coaching for staff.
Instructs camp staff in the performance of specific duties.
Assists in caring and maintaining equipment and facilities.
Monitors safety and all procedures as they pertain to campers and staff.
Ensures a safe, caring, and enjoyable environment that promotes positive child development.
Models professionalism and civic leadership for camp counselors, volunteers, camp participants, and parents/guardians.
Acts as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians regarding camp participants; provides assistance to parents/guardians and camp participants.
Maintains positive working relationship with the Cumberland Valley School District staff, local municipal officials, township staff, and various community organizations.
Maintains all paperwork pertinent to the position.
Performs all other duties assigned.
Implements positive behavioral management practices regarding staff and camp participants.
Position Requirements:
Experience, Education, Licenses/Certifications
Minimum of 2 years working with children in a recreational, educational, or related environment.
Minimum of 1 year managing or supervising staff, preferred.
High School diploma/GED or educational equivalent.
Valid CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications.
Acceptable
criminal background check and a child abuse clearance are required.
General Knowledge/Abilities
Ability to work full time, 40 hours per week, for 10 weeks.
Ability to plan, create, organize, and carry out daily programs.
Positive and enthusiastic leadership style capable of motivating and mentoring staff and camp participants.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong multitasking skills; ability to do more than one thing at a time.
Strong conflict management skills.
Ability to execute the policies and procedures of the Silver Spring Township.
Ability to pull, push, move, and/or transport a minimum of fifteen (15) pounds on a daily basis.
Ability to fluently speak and read the English language along with understanding and following both written and verbal direction on a daily basis.
Ability to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with the general public and fellow employees on a daily basis.
Acceptable criminal background check and child abuse clearance is required.

Must be 18 years of age or older
Desire to interact with children.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Camp Counselors and/or Volunteers in the absence of Camp Director
