Every year , the City opens the Sick Leave Bank for donations from employees . If you donate hours to the sick leave bank , you are eligible to use hours from the bank during that calendar year if the need arises . Some key points of the policy:
   You must be past the 90 - day sick leave qualifying period .
   The minimum donation is 8 hours , with a max of 80 hours donated .
   Donations must be made in whole hour increments .
   You must have a balance of at least 88 hours in your sick leave bank in order to donate . Your donation cannot cause your balance to go below 80 hours .
   You may donate sick and/or vacation . The same rules apply to vacation hours donated .
   If you have use or lose vacation hours , you may donate some or all of them .
   As a refresher , to use hours from the sick leave bank , you can make a formal request to the HR department . The request would also need to be approved by your supervisor . You must use ALL of your accrual balances before you can draw from the bank . This includes any accrued comp time . If you do make a request , everything will be kept confidential .

   The amount of leave hours you wish to donate .
   The TYPE of leave ( sick or vacation ) .
   You will be notified by March that your donation was accepted , and what your new accrual balance is after the donation .
