As part of the 2021 Bond Program , the Richardson Animal Shelter is undergoing renovation . The upgrades to the facility will include:
   A new main entrance .
   An entry façade
   Expanded staff offices .
   New storage rooms
   Updated staff and public restrooms
   Updated break room .
   The Shelter will be closed March 4 - 5 to allow staff to move into a temporary facility , located adjacent to the shelter ( 1330 Columbia Dr . ) , where they will remain until construction is complete .
   Once the shelter reopens , parking will be relocated to the east side of the property at an existing parking lot; entry to the Shelter from Columbia Drive will not be allowed . Signs are available to guide visitors on where to park and enter the facility .
   Those who wish to adopt or visit with a dog can still do so during construction . There will be a temporary , fenced - in area for visits outside .
   Construction is expected to be complete in 2025 . For more details about the Shelter’s renovations , visit
