Grayslake Illinois : American Lit 101 Revisited Book Club The Handmaid s Tale ( Grayslake ) - The Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum and the Grayslake Area Public Library presents the final book in the "American Lit 101: Revisited!" program . This book club offers a reexamination of a few literary classics . Book Club is *FREE* but registration is encouraged as "The Handmaid ' s Tale" copies and space are limited . Books will be available for pick up at the library upon registration . Collage of Lake County professor , Cathy Colton will lead the discussion of "The Handmaid’s Tale" by Margaret Atwood . The Handmaid ' s Tale , published in 1985 , is a futuristic speculative fiction/dystopian novel set in a near - future New England , in a totalitarian theocracy which has overthrown the United States government . This program is part of an ongoing Subject Series corresponding with our current exhibit , "Be True To Your School: 75 Years of Grayslake High Schools . "
