Caring for an individual with dementia requires different techniques than those needed to care for someone who is not cognitively impaired . Alzheimer’s Association support groups encourage attendees to share information , give and receive mutual support , and exchange coping skills with one another . Support group attendees can offer practical suggestions based on their own experiences that may make caregiving easier . Sharing those ideas in a support group can prevent care partners from “reinventing the wheel . ”
Our Caregivers Support Group at the Library is free to all who’d like to attend and will be facilitated by a trained Alzheimer’s Association volunteer . We meet monthly on the second Friday in the Learning Center on the second floor . No registration is required .
