The Administration for Children and Families ( ACF ) at the U . S . Department of Health and Human Services ( HHS ) just announced $1 . 6 million for a new program called Medical - Legal Partnerships Plus ( MLP+ ) . This program will help existing medical - legal partnerships provide legal and social services to families in need . ACF Acting Assistant Secretary Jeff Hild highlighted the importance of legal services in addressing health inequities and improving outcomes for families . The program will support partnerships in eight states to help families access legal representation and address the root causes of poverty . ACF ' s Office of Community Services Director Lanikque Howard emphasized the collaborative nature of medical - legal partnerships in addressing the barriers to healthy living .
