The Summer Youth Work Program provides students residing in Caddo Parish with the opportunity to learn how their local government works, explore possible careers, provide employment opportunities, and develop essential work readiness skills.  The program will embrace a variety of jobs within Caddo Parish Government departments. 
   Eligibility
   The ten-week program runs from Tuesday, May 31, 2022 through Friday, August 5, 2022. The program is open to Caddo Parish residents who are at least 16 years of age and who are in high school or in college undergraduate studies.  Any student who does not meet the age requirement should not apply since your application will not be considered.
   Expectations of Youth Participants
   Participants of the Summer Youth Work Program will be expected to come to work daily (on time) and follow all rules established by the Program and the departments to which they have been assigned.  Participants are expected to be active, engaged, and to always put forth their best effort while on the job.
   Compensation
   Positions for high school participants in the Summer Youth Work Program will pay $8.50 per hour.  Positions for college participants will pay $10.00 per hour.  Participants will only be compensated for time worked, up to the maximum number of hours permitted by the program (400 hours).  The normal workweek is Monday – Friday.
   Positions and Work Locations
   Student workers are assigned to positions throughout the Parish of Caddo organization.  The positions will consist of office and laborer positions.  Clerical office positions are those in a business office environment and involve greeting visitors, taking incoming calls, transferring calls, filing, scanning, typing and other duties as assigned.  Laborer positions involve work inside and outdoors performing housekeeping, grounds keeping, maintenance and other duties as assigned.  If you have a preference of position and location, please indicate so in the comments section of your application.  
   Notification
   Successful applicants will be notified if selected to participate in the Summer Youth Work Program.  If notified, the applicant will need to bring the following items: 
   Birth Certificate
   Social Security Card
   State Issued Driver's License, Permit, or ID Card
   Employment Certificate (students under age 18)
   Selected applicants under the age of 18 must obtain an Employment Certificate from the Caddo Parish School Board.  The applicant will be issued the Application to Employ Minors form by the Parish of Caddo Department of Human Resources.  This application should be taken to the School Board (1638 Murphy Street, Shreveport, LA - formerly Central Elementary) in order for the them to issue the employment certificate.
   Selected applicants will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen.  The Parish of Caddo requires a post-offer and for cause drug screening.  Random drug testing may also be administered.  Selected applicants assigned to Juvenile Services will be required to undergo a background check and fingerprinting.
