The Town of South Kingstown is seeking qualified applicants for the role of Seasonal Park Laborer for the 2022 Season. The South Kingstown Parks & Recreation Department is committed to serving the needs of the community by providing enriching recreation experiences and quality facilities. The Parks Division is responsible for the care and maintenance of all Town parks and playgrounds, municipal grounds, athletic fields, school athletic fields, the Town Beach, and various public green spaces including the Bike Path.
The Seasonal Park Laborer performs duties that include driving a pickup truck, mowing, edging, weeding, planting grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees, and leaf cleanup and other seasonal prep and cleanup. Duties also include preparing athletic fields for use, setting up facilities for events, breakdown following events, restroom cleaning, trash pickup, painting, graffiti removal, as well as other repair work and maintenance duties as needed.
The position works under the guidance of other Parks Division staff, and requires the ability to perform assorted tasks requiring manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions when necessary. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to skillfully, safely, and efficiently operate related tools and equipment. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with fellow employees and the public, and to effectively deal with others in a helpful, respectful, and courteous manner.
This is a Seasonal position, and works April 2022 through November 2022 earning a rate of $18.00 per hour. The schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30am-4pm, and between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the schedule is adjusted to 6am-2:30pm. To be considered, candidates must be 18 years old and have knowledge and experience in landscaping techniques. This position requires successful completion of a thorough background check and a pre-employment physical, and requires a valid driver’s license.
