Today , the Wilson Police Department received information of a person on social media posting that they were involved in this incident . The person was identified , was interviewed , and home searched . The person was identified as a 14 years of age male that was in possession of a realistic BB pistol . The juvenile is not considered a suspect to this incident and was making false claims of their involvement on social media . Due to the age of the juvenile , their identity can not be revealed .
There have been public concerns regarding the response time of officers to the complex . 911 notes from the incident indicate the following; from the time the call was dispatched to officers to the time the first officer stated they were on scene was 1 minute and 26 seconds . That officer was an officer assigned to the Parks and Recreation Unit and was working the event .
Today , the Wilson Police Department continued searches of the baseball complex grounds along with the surrounding woodlands and open fields . The department’s Homicide Task Force , General Investigations Division , Violent Fugitive Task Force , and Forensics Unit participated in the search . Detectives are reviewing all available camera footage and interviewing identified witnesses . The police department is also continuing to use other city and private resources in this investigation .

The Wilson Police Department is still actively investigating this case and is utilizing all of its resources to determine the cause of yesterday’s event . The department understands the importance of this investigation and the implications that it has on our community .
The Wilson Police Department currently has no evidence that this situation was an active shooter incident . The Wilson Police Department , at this time , has no evidence that anyone at the location was intentionally targeted by gunfire . We can confirm that three shots were fired during the incident .
Two vehicles were identified as potentially being involved in the incident during the initial investigation . The Wilson Police Department located those vehicles yesterday and spoke to the occupants , who were attendees at the game .
The following agencies assisted with responding to the scene yesterday: Wilson County Sherriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol . We thank them for their assistance in helping us during this event .

The previous release inaccurately reported the vehicle struck during this incident was parked at the edge of a wood line . That information was incorrect . The vehicle struck was parked in a parking lot and was close to field number 2 . We apologize for the error .

On 07/10/22 at 10:31 AM , officers of the Wilson Police Department were dispatched to Gillette Athletic Complex ( 3238 Corbett Ave . ) regarding an active shooter . At the time of the call , there was a baseball tournament in progress . When officers arrived , they spoke to attendees who stated they heard several gunshots . An unoccupied vehicle was located on the edge of a wood line that had been struck by the gunfire . It was determined that the incident was not an active shooter but a shots fired in the city limits type of incident . No one was injured and the baseball tournament has been canceled for the day . The investigation is still on going .
