Position Summary:
The Wetaskiwin Public Library is seeking an energetic, technologically savvy, customer service-oriented team player with strong organizational skills to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of Library Services and LAIII staff, the incumbent is responsible for sorting and shelving a variety of materials using the in-house classification systems, maintaining order and neatness of public areas, and performing basic preparation of books and materials. Assisting with circulation desk duties, working collaboratively as a team, and providing customer services to patrons.
Shifts:
This is a position with approximately 10 to 16 hours a week. Monday to Wednesday 3 pm to 7 pm and Saturdays 9 – 5 or 1 – 5.
Responsibilities:
Maintain an orderly library collection by sorting books, publications, and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
Greets visitors to the library and assists patrons in-person or on the telephone in a courteous manner.
Answer routine inquiries and refer patrons in need of further assistance.
Uses ILS to process the return of library material.
Responds to basic computer inquires.
Assists with daily opening and closing routines.
Adheres to Health & Safety standards as outlined in City of Wetaskiwin and Wetaskiwin Public Library policies and procedures, including all COVID-19 measures in place.
Completes other related duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
15 years old or older and enrolled in junior high/high school or completion of grade 12 for adult applicants.
Physical ability to lift and move up to twenty (20) pounds.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong understanding of alphabetization and Dewey classification.
Basic knowledge of libraries and library collections.
Good technology skills.
Strong customer service skills with a positive attitude
