Summary: 
   The Water Operator role reporting to the Public Works Director will be responsible for the operation of the Town of Newton’s Water Treatment Plant.  The 1.5 MGD microfiltration plant is located in Sparta Township, New Jersey.
    
   Responsibilities:
   Oversee daily operations at the treatment plant
   Make necessary changes and adjustments to chemical feeds and other treatment processes to meet NJDEP limits
   Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, mixers, and other plant equipment
   Take samples, run lab analysis, and collect samples to be sent out to the certified lab for analysis
   Receive chemical deliveries, including- sodium Hypo, caustic, fluoride, zinc orthophosphate, and citric acid
   Perform CIPs quarterly
   Oversee approximately 55 miles of distribution mains, a PR station, and a 2 million gallon storage tank and pump station
   Submit all water reports to the NJDEP by the 10
   th
   of the month
   Attend monthly Utility Advisory Board meeting
   Oversee emergency repairs to the water system as may be needed
    
   Requirements:
   High School or equivalency (G.E.D.) diploma
   This position requires both a T-3 water treatment license and a W-2 water distribution license
   Experience with operating a membrane filtration treatment plant
   Must possess a valid driver’s license
   Knowledge of Town policies, procedures, and safety practices applicable to area of responsibility, as well as federal and state regulations regarding safe drinking water operations
   Proficient use of a computer and associated software programs
   Ability to make operational decisions/adjustments based upon information gathered via distributed control systems and observation of system conditions
