The Village of Libertyville, IL (pop. 20,800), a northern suburb of Chicago, is seeking to fill a full-time opening for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I. Under the direction of the Wastewater Superintendent the position is responsible for performing a variety of activities related to the operation and maintenance of the 4 mgd treatment plant, 15 sanitary lift stations and 1 stormwater pump station.
Essential Functions:
Observes plant and lift station operations and checks for potential issues/problems. Reads meters, gauges, charts, SCADA and instruments and documents all required information. Performs preventative maintenance on plant and lift station equipment. Repairs and replaces pumps and motors, electrical panels, controls, and related mechanical equipment. Cleans, lubricates and changes component parts and otherwise maintains process monitoring and control systems. Performs record keeping functions such as logging information regarding plant operation, test results from process lab, maintenance work performed and unusual operating conditions. Assists with equipment replacement and/or installation projects. Takes samples of wastewater, scum, grit, sludge and other materials and properly records chain of custody information; assists and may run process lab testing to determine efficiency of treatment processes. Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects. Performs grounds and facilities maintenance and cleaning activities as required. Updates supervisor and staff regarding work assignment status in a prompt and courteous manner. Maintains and services equipment and hand and power tools; maintains inventory of frequently used supplies and parts. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Drives Village vehicles to work sites and transports materials as required. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. The position requires weekend duty and work on Holidays on a rotational basis and availability for after-hours emergency situations.
