Position Summary:
The Wastewater Operator is an integral part of the operations and maintenance of the treatment facility and is responsible for the effective treatment of water before it is returned to the Eagle River. Wastewater operators operate valves motors, perform water quality sampling and analysis, and perform light troubleshooting of mechanical equipment. The operator is primarily assigned tasks for the wastewater plant. Will perform extensive field work and manual maintenance work in the operations of the water system including heavy physical, manual administrative and skilled work. May also perform a variety of routine and special activities for maintenance within the Public Works Department as conditions warrant.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
A license/certification preferred, will consider B, C or D license
Experience with wastewater treatment plants helpful
Water Distribution license preferred
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Requires successful completion of MVR and criminal background check
Ability to work overtime, holidays, and rotating weekends on call. Able to respond to On Call requests in a reasonable time
Hiring Range, Education, Training and Certifications:
Placement in the Water Operator position is at the discretion of management and is based on organizational needs and qualifications. There are five levels of Water Operator (A, B, C, D and Trainee) with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The following serves as a general framework of the minimum requirements for placement at each level:
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATORS A, B, & C
Colorado Class A Wastewater Operator Certificate AND a Colorado Class 3 Collection System Certification must be obtained within a period determined by management.
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR A Hiring Range: $27.61 – $34.51/ hourly.
The pay range maximum is $41.41 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience.
Wastewater Operator A placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class A Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 4 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR B Hiring Range: $26.46 – $33.08/ hourly.
The pay range maximum is $39.69 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience.
Wastewater Operator B placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class B Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 3 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR C Hiring Range: $22.95 – $27.54/ hourly.
The pay range maximum is $32.13 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience.
Wastewater Operator C placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class C Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 2 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR D Hiring Range: $19.15 – $22.98/ hourly.
The pay range maximum is $26.81 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience.
Wastewater Operator D placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class D Wastewater Operators Certification. D-License requires passing of CO state exam. Prefer a minimum of 6 months to 1-year related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
WASTEWATER OPERATOR IN TRAINING Hiring Range: $19.15 – $22.98/ hourly
. High School Diploma or GED. Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with coworkers. Trains on wastewater activities, including SCADA monitoring, safety, water quality sampling and monitoring techniques, lab analysis, instrument verification and calibration, monitoring and maintaining equipment. Ability to receive D-License within 6 months of hire date.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a fulltime position with benefits. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday’s we attempt to work a half day with potential for other hours to support events. Must be available for “On Call” during non-regular scheduled hours.
