The City of Lancaster is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Mechanic.  
   Under the direction of Superintendent and Plant Manager, performs skilled mechanical maintenance work on equipment used in wastewater treatment and collection systems.
   Installs, repairs and overhauls pumps, motors and other equipment used in the wastewater facilities; repairs existing piping and pipe fittings, replaces bearings, mechanical seals, packing, couplings and other parts as required. 
   Operates department equipment, including, but not limited to:  boom trucks, dump trucks, and air compressor.
   Operates the Mainline Sewer T.V. Inspection Unit to determine defects in the sanitary sewer and combination sewer system.
   Performs lift stations daily work, including but not limited to, pulling of rags, inspection of equipment and cleaning.
   Inspects all sanitary and combination sewers for repairs and obstructions by foreign matter.
   
   Operates combination sewer jet/vacuum machine for cleaning of sewers, including, removal of grit/grease and objects, which clog sewers.
   Performs work on manholes, including but not limited to, locating, raising, sealing, replacing castings or covers.
   Utilizes or operates cutting and welding torch and various hand tools, including but not limited to, wrenches and screw drivers to perform necessary tasks.
   Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, including but not limited to, cleaning filters and oiling and lubricating parts.
   Performs the task of smoking of sewers for inspection of illegal connections to sewer system or other infiltration problems.
   Maintains records, logs, work orders and prepares reports as required.
   Performs other related duties as related to the essential functions.
   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
   
    High school diploma or equivalent;
   Any combination of training and work experience, which indicates possession of skills, knowledge and abilities, listed below.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:  completion of secondary education, plus two (2) years experience in mechanical maintenance and repair or equivalent.  A valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsement) must be obtained within six months of hire and must be insurable under the City’s insurance policy. 
   Skilled in the operation and maintenance of all equipment utilized by the department. Skilled in locating and diagnosing mechanical malfunctions.
   Skilled in performing maintenance duties on mechanical and electrical equipment used by the department. 
   Knowledge of safety practices used in the wastewater field.
   Knowledge of equipment, tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment. 
   Knowledge of mechanical and operating procedures pertaining to the department.
   Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions and diagrams. 
   Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with associates and general public.
   Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, meters, gauges, etc., used by the department. 
   Ability to work for long periods in inclement weather.
    Ability to inspect electrical and mechanical equipment operation to detect problem areas and take appropriate remedial measures. 
   Ability to use tools necessary in performing required duties.
   Ability to maintain logs records and prepares and submits required reports. 
   Ability and willingness to use a variety of special safety devices.
