On Monday , April 18 , 2022 , at approximately 10:45 p . m . , the
Reno Fire Department
responded to a structure fire at 1570 Clemson Drive . Firefighters rescued two adults from the burning structure and extinguished the fire . Both victims were transported to Renown . One adult female is in critical condition .
Fire investigators determined that the fire most likely started at the exterior wall from a vehicle diesel block warmer . The fire quickly progressed to the interior of the house through juniper brush against the house .
The Reno Fire Department would like to remind the public about the dangers of planting evergreen shrubs too close to exterior walls . Ornamental juniper shrubs are very popular in northern Nevada residential landscapes . Unfortunately , many residents grow them too close to the house . Outside they may look green , but under that green exterior , dry and dead needles can easily ignite and burn intensely . The Reno Fire Department recommends spacing smaller evergreen shrubs at least 10 feet from your exterior wall and larger evergreen trees 30 feet from your exterior wall . These distances should be increased if you are in a high - hazard Wildland Urban Interface area , or on a south - facing slope with a lot of sun exposure .
