Veterans Director
The Town of Billerica seeks applicants for the position of Veterans Director.
Duties:
Provide comprehensive professional veterans services to Town veterans and their dependents in compliance with state law (Mass. G.L. Ch. 115); performs all other related work as required.
Additional Duties Include:
Informs veterans and their dependents regarding their eligibility for benefits; provides background information; and assists veterans in completing applications.
Administers veterans’ benefits and coordinates benefit provision. Benefits include retirement benefits, compensation, hospitalization, outpatient treatment, education, and burial benefits.
Processes applications; investigates eligibility of claimants; and authorizes benefit payments.
Organizes and coordinates memorial activities of veterans; inspects and oversees the care of veterans’ graves, and arranges for placement of flags at all veterans’ graves on appropriate holidays.
Prepares reports to account for funds; reports to state agencies to acquire reimbursements and maintains appropriate records.
Develops, manages and monitors the department’s annual operating budget.
Attends trainings, meetings and maintains any required certifications for Veterans Services Officers.
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Qualifications:
Must be a Veteran of the United States Armed Services and have served during a period of active conflict; High School diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (i.e., Social Work,) highly preferred; any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Special Requirements
:
Certification by Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services
Must have an Honorable Discharge on DD214
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
Salary:
Salary range from $72,514 – $85,678
