The City of Charlottetown Emergency Measures team and EMO partners continue to monitor Hurricane Fiona ' s potential impacts , and will continue to keep residents informed . Staff and emergency personnel are responding as they are able , and crews are working to finalize the Reception Centres for members of the public who cannot stay inside their homes .
At this time , we are advising residents not to proceed to Reception Centres until it is deemed safe to do so . A further announcement will be made in the coming hours about the loca......tion of the Reception Centres .
From tonight until possibly Sunday , stay inside unless it is absolutely necessary , stay off the roads , and expect continuing power outages .
There are several downed trees and fallen power lines throughout the City , blocking several streets . Power outages are affecting a majority of residents . Our dispatch Centre received over a hundred calls overnight regarding downed trees and power lines . There were 26 calls to the Charlottetown Fire Department since 9 p . m . on Friday evening , and emergency personnel are triaging calls . Please note that , at this time , calls regarding public safety will be prioritized over calls regarding property damage .
Crews are doing what they can , but the majority of the cleanup work will begin once wind speeds decrease from the extreme levels we are currently experiencing .
