FORT SHAFTER , Hawaii - - The U . S . Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE ) , in partnership with the City and County of Honolulu ( CCH ) , will hold a virtual public meeting Tuesday , Dec . 13 , from 5:30 to 8:30 p . m . to provide an update to the alternative plans developed for the Ala Wai Flood Risk Management General Reevaluation ( GR ) Study . The meeting is part of ongoing workshops to update the community on the study progress to - date , present the final array of alternative plans , and gather community input and feedback on the alter......native plans presented . The public is invited attend and provide input on the final array of alternative flood risk management plans , prior to selection of a plan . Each alternative comprises a suite of management measures that work together to manage flood risk . An updated tracking spreadsheet with these alternatives will be available online prior to the meeting . BACKGROUND: In November 2021 , the first round of community meetings introduced the GR study; gathered initial input and ideas from the community; and included an interactive workshop to brainstorm potential solutions and identify concerns in the study area . In January 2022 , the study team presented a revised public engagement and communications strategy that included additional virtual public meetings and enhanced online engagement opportunities . In April 2022 , a series of workshops were held to discuss the development and screening of flood risk management measures throughout the watershed . In July 2022 , another series of workshops were held to discuss the initial array of alternative flood risk management plans . NEXT STEPS: In June 2023 , the public will have an opportunity to provide formal comments on the draft report and tentatively selected plan . After completion of the final report in late 2023 or early 2024 , there will be another opportunity for the public to discuss and provide feedback on the final recommendation by USACE . In addition to the public meetings and workshops , the public can engage the study team via several online mechanisms available 24/7 .
