Babylon New York - Town Partners with U . S . Coast Guard to Offer Free Boater Safety Course 06 June 2022 ( news )

As the 2022 summer boating season begins , the Town of Babylon remains committed to public safety and keeping our waterways safe for all to enjoy . Supervisor Rich Schaffer , Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman and Public Safety Chairman Terence McSweeney were proud to recently partner with members of the U . S . Coast Guard to offer residents a free boater safety class in North Babylon .
By 2025 , all watercraft operators born after January 1 , 1988 must complete a New York State Boater Safety Course as part of “Brianna’s Law . ” This comprehensive boater education law requires all power boaters and those who operate sailing vessels through auxiliary power , complete a boating safety course . It was signed into law in August 2019 and went into effect on January 1 , 2020 .
The Town thanks the U . S . Coast Guard as well as Blue Marlin Boats of Seaford for their partnership in bringing this important safety initiative to our residents . For more information on how to take a boater safety course , please visit the New York State parks website:
