The Town is seeking one member to fill a vacancy on the Amherst Housing Authority Board of Commissioners .
   The vacancy exists because the seat , reserved for an appointment by the Governor , has not been filled and the law permits the Town to fill the seat instead .
   As background , the voters of the Town of Amherst elect three members of the Board , one seat is reserved for a resident , and one seat is designated for appointment by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts . If the Governor does not appoint a member , the Town Manager is responsible for appointing a member . All members serve five - year terms .  
   The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners establishes policies regulating the operation of the Amherst Housing Authority . Regular Board meetings are currently being held on the third Monday of each month at 2:00 PM in the community room at Jean Elder Building in Amherst and also virtually .
   The Housing Authority’s website provides links to documents that range from applications for the various housing programs; housing plans; the Section 8 Administrative Plan; the Federal 5 year plan; minutes from the Board of Commissioners meetings; Annual Reports; numerous agency policies and even opportunities for volunteering .    The Town Manager seeks residents who have relevant expertise or experience . We are especially seeking individuals of diverse backgrounds to serve on all boards , committees , and commissions .
