POSITION SUMMARY:
The Technical Specialist role has been designed for someone who likes to have their hands on many different technologies and can work to provide technical solutions to business problems. A technical specialist is frequently called upon to draw on their diverse knowledge of technology, while keeping that knowledge current, and apply those technologies where appropriate. A typical week in the life of the technical specialist could have them working a camera to record a meeting, designing a new interface to an existing application, building interactive web interfaces, addressing cybersecurity issues, and working with end users on their applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Able to pick up and learn new technology from a software, hardware, and A/V equipment.
Be able to learn new products and technologies as they become available to find the best methods for using them.
Motivated to do problem solving and have problem solving skills.
Evaluating existing and emerging technologies and identify how they can be used to solve business needs.
Create application designs and develop web pages to streamline business processes and programs.
Providing customer support and documentation for programs and applications.
Troubleshooting technical issues.
Finding ways to increase productivity and reduce expenses.
General understanding of n-tier architecture, IIS and SQL.
Be able to take control of issues and take the lead.
Identify and resolve problems affecting systems performance, efficiency, and availability in a timely manner.
Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans.
Where necessary, provide end-user training and support through verbal and/or written communications.
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software, products, and services.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.
Cybersecurity/Networking certifications are a plus
Proven experience with emerging technologies.
Working technical knowledge of current Windows operating systems.
Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office suite
Working technical knowledge of current messaging systems software, protocols, and standards.
Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
Experience with database management.
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
Ability to present ideas, solutions and document them in a user-friendly format & language.
Highly self motivated and directed.
Keen attention to detail.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer service orientation.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Work Conditions:
On-call availability
Sitting for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
Occasional lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects.
