SUMMIT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAFELY RETURNS CHILD TO FATHER AFTER PARENTAL ABDUCTION

SUM......MIT COUNTY , CO – On September 20 , 2022 , the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a parental kidnapping that occurred at 293 Pelican Drive unit 1802 . Brian Dean advised that his former spouse , Rebecca Perkins , absconded with their 9 - year - old son and was possibly fleeing to Mexico with her current boyfriend . This was in violation of a parental custody agreement and court order for abduction prevention measures . Perkins recently expressed extreme ideologies and was believed to be attempting to travel to the Skogen Bosque commune near San Cristobal de las Casa , Mexico . A felony arrest warrant was issued for Perkins for Violation of Custody Order and the child was entered into the national database as missing . While fleeing , Rebecca took several evasive measures to prevent herself and her child from being located by law enforcement .  The following day , Perkins was taken into custody , without incident , while attempting to cross the border into Mexico at the Santa Teresa Port of Entry in New Mexico . The child was safely reunited with his father .

“This critically time sensitive investigation , multi - state search , and subsequent arrest and safe reunification of the child could not have been possible without the relationships and assistance of our local , state and federal partners . It took the combined focus and determination of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office , Summit County 911 Center , 5
thJudicial District Attorney’s Office , Colorado Bureau of Investigation , Colorado State Patrol , United Stated Marshals Service , Homeland Security Investigators and U . S . Customs and Border Protection to bring this investigation to a safe and successful conclusion . We are thankful to all of our partners , ” said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons .

No further details will be released at this time .
