Germantown librarians particularly encourage families to participate as a fun summer group activity .
“Summer reading is important because it helps bridge the gap between school years , ” said Youth Services Librarian Mary Smrek . “We want to encourage all to participate in our summer reading program to promote literacy and education . ”
Adult Services Librarian Rachel Babb says the library will also offer special themed activities such as sand painting and nautical bottle crafting as additional ways to earn program points .
“The summer reading program is a lifelong learning opportunity for the adults in our community . I encourage residents to participate to foster their love of reading and to explore the library collection , ” Babb said . “The program also gives adults a fun way to connect with their children who might also be participating in the summer reading program . ”
