Silver Spring Township has several summer employment opportunities available within our summer camp programs. These are seasonal technical positions which assist with the leadership and supervision of camp participants in the Summer Camp program.
Full-Time Summer C.A.M.P Silver Spring Counselors
Part-Time Summer Playground Counselors
C.A.M.P Silver Spring | Eagle View Middle School
This 8-week summer camp welcomes children entering grades 1-5 Monday-Friday starting June 12th and ending on August 4th. This full-day camp allows children to engage in various activities with weekly themes both indoors and outdoors. C.A.M.P Silver Spring travels off-site to local destinations for field trips and/or pool days. This camp offers full-time summer employment for 8 weeks. C.A.M.P Silver Spring drop-off begins at 8:00 AM and pick-up is at 4:30 PM. Counselor start and end times will be staggered throughout the program, averaging 8 hours per day/40 hours per week.
Summer Playground | Pleasant View Park
This half-day outdoor playground program welcomes children entering grades 1-5 and runs for two 4 week sessions starting June 13th and ending August 5th. Summer playground is based out of the Pleasant View Park Pavilion and runs Monday – Friday from 9am – 12pm. Counselors will have the opportunity to plan various activities at the park including arts & crafts, sports, guest speakers, lawn games, water activities, team building activities and much more! This half-day camp offers part-time employment for 8 weeks throughout the summer.
Essential Functions:
Provides supervision and mentorship of camp participants and volunteers.
Implements age-appropriate daily activities and programs.
Maintains positive working relationships with the Cumberland Valley School District staff, local municipal officials, township staff, guest speakers and various community organizations.
Ensures high quality activities, themes, and specialty programs.
Ensures a safe, caring, and enjoyable environment that promotes positive child development.
Effectively communicates with parents and camp participants.
Follows camp objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines.
Leads organized group and individual activities daily.
Performs all other duties assigned.
Position Requirements:
Experience, Education, Licenses/Certification: Experience in supervising other people, including peers, is preferred.
Experience in planning and leading camp programs and activities.
Enrollment in high school; or a post-secondary institution is preferred.
Acceptable criminal background check and child abuse clearance.
Valid First Aid, CPR and AED certification. General Knowledge/Abilities
Ability to work 8 weeks.
Ability to execute the policies and procedures of Silver Spring Township.
Ability to plan, create, organize, and carry out daily programs.
Positive and enthusiastic leadership style capable of motivating and mentoring camp participants.
Implements positive behavioral management practices in regard to staff and camp participants.
Ability to fluently speak and read the English language along with understanding and following both written and verbal direction on a daily basis.
Ability to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with the general public and fellow employees on a daily basis.
Ability to pull, push, move and/or transport fifteen (15) pounds on a daily basis.
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Employees over the age of 18 must provide a PA State Criminal History Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Clearance prior to employment. All clearances and background checks must be provided no later than 30 days prior to employment start date. In addition to clearances, a current CPR, First Aid, AED certification is also required. Interviews begin in February. Staff orientation is mandatory and a date will be provided closer to the start of camp.
