Statement from Town of Rosetown Regarding 
   Remediation of Orange Memories Care Home
    
   The Town of Rosetown is completing remediation work on the Orange Memories Care Home to ensure that it remains a safe and sustainable facility for years to come . The remediation work includes landscaping to direct water away from the foundation and insulation to reduce foundation movement associated with frost . The remediation work is being directed by an engineer hired by the Town .  This remediation work started in 2021 and will be completed in 2022 .  The tender awarded for this remediation work was $408 , 074 . 48; plus taxes and engineer fees .   
    
   This remediation work is related to the fact that Orange Memories was constructed with a shallow foundation system instead of a pile - supported foundation system . The Town was advised after construction was complete that a pile - supported foundation system would have been more appropriate for the soil conditions . Orange Memories is currently safe for occupancy and is being regularly inspected by an engineer to confirm that it remains that way .
    
   The Town has made claims against the general contractor and the designer of Orange Memories regarding the foundation as well as work the Town alleged to have been incomplete , deficient , or required under warranty .  
    
   The Town reached a settlement with the general contractor , the value of which is confidential .  The funds received under this settlement was placed in the Town of Rosetown Reserve account to pay for the insulation and landscaping project .
    
   The Town is continuing to litigate its claim against the designer .
