The Erie Police Department has been made aware of a significant increase in what is considered less than respectful park usage . Not only does inconsiderate behavior impact the quality of the experience for users , but it also jeopardizes safety .  
   If you happen to frequent our treasured amenities when parking and access is stretched during an event , weekday sports practice , or weekend game , here are some ways you can promote shareability for all with safety in mind:   
   Avoid blocking fire hydrant , crosswalk , driveway , and sidewalk access when parking .  
   Be mindful of any limited visibility while backing out of driveways or navigating corners that your parking may cause .  
   Obstructing views of pedestrians on crosswalks is dangerous .  
   Consider decreasing speeds when activity increases .  
   Refrain from stopping vehicles in the middle of the road to drop off and pick up .  
   Place trash and debris in receptacles so they don’t become hazards left in the street and park .  
   Avoid emitting air pollution . Do not unnecessarily idle vehicles when in a shared space .  
   It ' s courteous to allow parking for any guests of homeowners .  
   Be aware of any potential noises which would interfere with a nearby homeowner’s quality of life ( airhorns , radios , idling vehicles , etc . ) .  
   In the meantime , expect to see officers providing directed enforcement in these areas educating speeders and parking violators . This includes those who block , or park too close to fire hydrants ( 15 feet ) , driveways ( 5 feet ) , and crosswalks ( 20 feet ) . Violations of these , or any other parking laws addressed in MTC - 1204 could result in a parking ticket and fine and/or the offending vehicle being towed .

   During certain events , incidents , crash scenes , or emergencies , officers may provide traffic control . The PD is not available to provide extra - duty traffic enforcement . Oftentimes , large - scale events do hire security officers for that purpose .  
   The Erie Police Department can , by request , initiate the use of a speed traffic trailer . At the discretion of the Traffic Sergeant , and upon availability , the unit may be deployed at a location for up to two weeks . For more , call 303 - 441 - 4444 .
