The City of Burlington’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Department/Solid Waste Division has openings for “Carriers” to work in the Solid Waste Division with department crew members on garbage trucks for the time period the specialty programs are running concurrently with the daily collection of garbage. Both the seasonal three (3) week Spring Bagged Leaf Collection Program followed immediately by the City-Wide Cleanup Program which is schedule to take up to six (6) weeks are considered “specialty programs” and additional help is needed to “flesh out” the crews during those programs. (There is also an eight (8) week Fall Bagged Leaf Collection Program.) These seasonal positions are for this Spring and are temporary and will be up to 40 hours per week (non-benefit eligible). No Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under supervision as a manual laborer, work is performed in the outdoors regardless of prevailing weather conditions. The primary purpose is the collection of properly prepared solid waste (garbage in wheeled carts and in separate plastic bags, paper yard bagged leaves and lawn litter, plastic bagged-no longer wanted household items and loose bulky items, including furniture) in a safe and efficient manner.
Period of Employment:
March 28 – December 9
Monday– Friday, 7 AM – until work is complete, up to 40 hours per week
