The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners today approved a three - year labor contract with the union that represents Sarpy County Department of Corrections employees .
“Maintaining a highly - trained , well - staffed department of corrections is a matter of public safety , ” said Don Kelly , Chair of the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners . “Corrections Officers keep our community safe , they keep their fellow officers safe , and they keep the inmates in our facility safe . ”
The
agreement
between the county and the Fraternal Order of Police , Sarpy Lodge No . 90 sets the starting wage for Corrections Officers at $27 an hour .
“In order to attract and retain professional , experienced corrections employees , Sarpy County has to be competitive with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and other counties while ensuring the protection of the taxpayer’s dollar . This contract does that , ” Kelly said .
The new contract will take effect July 1 .
IN OTHER BUSINESS , the Board:
Approved new contracts with
County Administrator Dan Hoins
and Chief Financial Officer William E . Conley .
Presented Core Values Awards to Capt . Chris Culler . The awards recognize Sarpy County employees who exemplify the county ' s core values of Service , Respect , Vision , Inclusion and Accountability .
