Fair on the Square , summer concerts , and family picnics are right around the corner , so the Town is making sure our picturesque Town Square is ready for every occasion .
   The Town started resodding sections of the Square this week , approximately 18 , 360 square feet of the 1 . 33 acres of parkland . The sod will be heavily watered and soft during the process , so the Town asks park visitors to remain on sidewalks as much as possible during the resodding . Work will be finished by the end of the week , weather permitting .
   “We are covering six different areas within in the park where there are bare spots , mostly on the west side and around the Christmas tree , ” said Derek Honeycutt , General Services Director .
   The sodding program will consist of a contractor tilling up the grass area surfaces and removing existing grass . Grading adjustments will be made to provide a smooth surface transition between the grass and hardscapes , correct drainage in specific areas , and then new Palisades Zoysia sod will be laid on the prepared surface . Palisades Zoysia is a grass with high blade density , good color , and is known to be more shade tolerant .
   “Town Square Park continues to be a focal point for Collierville , and we want to make these changes in our grounds maintenance program to continue exceeding our appearance standards in the face of increased park usage and tree growth , ” said Derek .
